The tournament was won by Tiger Woods, who at the age of 21 became the youngest player to ever win the Masters. Woods shot a record-breaking score of 18-under-par to win by 12 strokes, the largest margin of victory in Masters history. This victory marked the beginning of what would become an illustrious career for Woods, who would go on to win a total of 15 major championships in his career.
